Africa Wants UN Role in Somali
Peacekeeping Courtesy, Mail Guardian South Africa - Tsegaye Tadesse | Addis Ababa, Ethiopia An African Union (AU) mission to Somalia recommended on Friday that it send peacekeepers for six months before handing over to the United Nations to tame a nation in chaos for 16 years. Diplomats see international peacekeepers as the only way to stabilise Somalia once Ethiopian troops -- who helped the interim government
oust rival Islamists over the New Year and are now propping up the administration -- return home. (January 22, 2007)

Petraeus! Is Baghdad Burning? Couresy, Stan Goff for ZNet.org - The United States makes up about 5 percent of the Earth’s
population, but as an aggregate we burn more than 25 percent of its fossil energy. That’s roughly true of all
three main forms of fossil energy – oil, natural gas and coal. The coal we get mainly by having West Virginians surrender
their mountains, where coal operators now lop the tops off those mountains to get at the seams of coal and dump the rubble
into nearby watercourses. That’s what we do for most of our electricity. Canada sells us most of the natural gas
we use ... nearly 90 percent in fact. (January 21, 2007)

and Lee Sustar for ZNet.org - WHAT ARE the dynamics
of the looting of Africa?
LET’S
START with the process by which the new imperialism relies on the extraction of resources at ever-cheaper prices. We
are in a confused period, because since 2002, commodity prices--minerals, energy and even cash crops--have been on
the rise. But many people will agree that it’s a small upturn in a commodity-price cycle that since the 1970s has been
on a dramatic decline. (January 21, 2007)

Iran's Leader:
UN Won't Stop Nuke Plan Courtesy, ABC7.com - TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's hardline president on Sunday defended his economic policies from sharp domestic criticism and said U.N. Security
Council sanctions would never deter the country from pursuing its nuclear program. To date, the International Atomic Energy Agency has found no evidence that Iran is trying to build nuclear
weapons, but it has criticized the country for concealing certain nuclear activities and failing to answer questions about
the program. (January 21, 2007)

High-Tech Healthcare in Iraq, Minus the HealthcarePratap Chatterjee (January
8th, 2007) - Almost four years after the toppling
of Saddam Hussein, Iraq’s healthcare system is still a shambles. While most hospitals lack basic supplies, dozens of
incomplete clinics and warehoused high-technology equipment remain as a testament to the failed U.S. experiment to reconstruct
of Iraq. First in a series of CorpWatch articles.

Album: Dancing With Daggers
Released: April 4th, 2006
French (bass), Nadia (drums) and Lexi (vocals & guitar) together formed
a rock band back in 2003. Magneta Lane smashed Canada over the head to get the public to pay attention with their debut EP,
The Constant Lover. Now 2 years later, heavily influenced by the angel and the devil that reside on each of their shoulders,
the beauties present Dancing With Daggers - the perfect balance of sinful rock and saintly melodies… Given this
album is the product of two muses, there are two schools of thought on it; while both can agree that Dancing With Daggers
was named for a fascination with anything spine chilling and bizarre (dark things that have a colorful side like carnivals,
the circus, fortune tellers and anything a little strange), after that, the schools diverge depending upon which muse you
consult. Full Bio

Democracy is not a one-size-fits-all proposition, Iran’s former president said, criticising US President
George W. Bush’s attempt to impose Western-style government on the Middle East. After facing more than 100 protesters as he arrived in central London to speak at Chatham House,
a foreign-affairs think tank, on Wednesday, Mohammad Khatami said that while he believes in democracy for the troubled region,
it should be tailored to fit countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. Courtesy, Khaleej Times Online (11/02/2006)

Beverly Darling. As if it was not enough to mischaracterize the U.S. Invasion and Occupation
of Iraq as part of the war against terrorism, and then to falsely equate the Global War On Terror with World War II, President
Bush is now accusing the Democrats (along with anyone else who disagrees with his strategy of ‘staying the course’
